Private equity delivers high risk, low returns and costly fees
Private equity does not deliver the superior returns that its advocates insist justify pension fund investment in this sector, and such investment would be highly risky for retail investors, according to a new report published by the AFT and Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund. Why I volunteer: A retiree’s call to action
In her inspiring address to the AFT TEACH conference this month, a retired educator shares why she continues to show up, speak out and support her union. Take action this Labor Day with the AFL-CIO!
Labor Day is a celebration of working people and the power we have when we are unionized—the power to take back our country for working people, not billionaires. In the streets and on the shop floor, in union halls and the halls of Congress, working people are rising up, speaking out and fighting for an economy, a government and a country for the people—not the billionaires. Join America’s labor unions and working people across the nation on Labor Day weekend as we take back our day and show the big corporations who we are and how we fight.
AFT Disaster Relief Fund for Gaza humanitarian aid
Nearly every person in Gaza needs urgent humanitarian assistance. Two million Palestinians have been displaced, and the entire population is facing dire food insecurity. According to UNICEF, 80 percent of those who have died from malnutrition during this war were children. This is an immediate crisis that requires our intervention. You can donate to the AFT Disaster Relief Fund for Gaza humanitarian aid.
Strengthen, don’t abandon, public schools
The route to the American dream goes through public schools. If we follow a blueprint for safe, welcoming, relevant and engaging schools, all students—in red, blue or purple communities—can reach their unique potential, says AFT President Randi Weingarten in her latest column.
