AFT Relaunches Share My Lesson Platform with New Redesign

WASHINGTON—Today, the American Federation of Teachers announced its Share My Lesson platform relaunch with an all new, user-friendly redesign to supercharge engagement and support educators with the latest tools to help their students recover and thrive. The program, which was launched almost a decade ago, serves as a free, one-stop destination for high-quality, educator-vetted materials curated for educators. The website contains more than 400,000 resource collections and lessons tailored to meet the needs of its 1.9 million members, and offers educators and school staff a way to collaborate, share ideas, access best practices and engage directly with other teachers around the country.

The relaunch comes in response to a user survey where members shared the improvements they’d like to see to make the platform even better. “We listened to our users. They told us they love the SML community, but they wanted us to make it even easier to use and more responsive to changing times like the pandemic we have all just endured,” said AFT President Randi Weingarten. “Share My Lesson started as a way to support educators, at a time some non-educators wanted technology to replace educator expertise. What we have done with SML is to build on educator professionalism and expertise. And now we’ve made the new site easier to use; easier to search; and reflective of what educators, school staff and families told us they need to help all students thrive socially, emotionally and academically.”

In addition to an enhanced search feature, the relaunched site features updated interactive graphics; expanded engagement opportunities; and lessons and resources tailored to preK-12 teachers, paraprofessionals, school staff, specialized instructional support personnel, higher education faculty, caregivers and others. It also showcases trusted partner content designed to help educators navigate challenging topics in the classroom and discuss current events.

The Share My Lesson site also includes hundreds of free, for-credit professional development webinars. It has content and resources to help teach current events and sensitive topics like climate change, threats to democracy, social justice issues, political polarization, COVID-19, science, and much more. Hundreds of thousands of new users joined SML during the pandemic to utilize the updated content and tools as they navigated teaching and connecting with students remotely.
