AFT Resolution

SUPPORT FOR REAUTHORIZATION OF PERKINS ACT

WHEREAS, the reauthorized Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act incorporates the priorities advocated by the AFT with a focus on improving articulation between academic and vocational education, between secondary and postsecondary education, vocational education and special needs populations, and vocational education and related education and training programs; and

WHEREAS, the new legislation provides new and unique opportunities to strengthen vocational education at both the secondary and postsecondary levels through improved cooperation and coordination with other programs; and

WHEREAS, the AFT is in a strong position to provide leadership in the implementation of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act to its affiliates and members:

RESOLVED, that the AFT, through its Standing Committee on Vocational Education, encourage the development of programs for articulation, encourage research and dissemination of information relating to the implementation of the Perkins Act and encourage the staff and affiliates of AFT to develop models and programs of information and support for affiliates and members seeking assistance in the implementation of provisions of the Perkins Act.
