WASHINGTON—American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement after the House passed a bill to help drive down costs for workers and families, sending the historic legislation to President Biden’s desk for signing:

“Today’s vote shows that with patience, persistence and the willingness to find solutions that address the real, kitchen-table problems American families face, Congress can change lives for the better. The Inflation Reduction Act drives down high healthcare costs, capping annual prescription drug costs that have crushed countless households. It takes on climate change to save the planet and lower families’ energy costs, all while reducing the deficit. It’s huge for workers, huge for older Americans and huge for our country, particularly our kids whose future depends on these historic investments.”
