WASHINGTON—American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement after the final presidential debate of the 2020 election:

“Tonight, Joe Biden reminded voters exactly why we want him in office: his decency, his understanding of the lived experiences of regular people, and his ability to speak to the heart of the shared values we so often fail to see in politics. Biden is fighting for the families of our country—he spent his time on stage tonight talking about what real people need, while President Trump talked about himself. Trump’s callousness was on full display: from his disregard for those affected by COVID-19, to—even worse—his breathtaking lack of empathy for families separated at the border. While Trump flung lies and mud, Biden laid out plan after plan for healthcare, schools and the climate, and he talked about reaching out and representing people from every corner of our nation. Biden shows us what’s possible with a president who lifts everyone up, who chooses hope over fear, and who will restore the character of our country.”
