AFT TEACH Conference
The AFT TEACH (Together Educating America's Children) conference will be held July 16-18, 2027, at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., and we want you to be a part of it.
Workshop proposals are now being accepted. Submit by Jan. 3.
This engaging professional learning event brings educators and allies together to share ideas, explore new approaches and learn from one another. Attendees will leave with practical strategies, fresh perspectives and ready-to-use resources to support students, strengthen their practice and make an impact throughout the school year.
We’re seeking proposals from AFT members, partner organizations and other subject-matter experts that address the opportunities and challenges educators are facing today, including:
- Engaging instructional practices, including differentiation, hands-on and experiential learning, and strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners;
- Teaching across the curriculum, including math, literacy, career and technical education, digital literacy and other subject areas;
- Student and educator safety and well-being, including social and emotional learning, bullying prevention, healthy learning environments and online safety; and
- Building strong school communities through collaboration with colleagues, families and communities, including community schools, family engagement, and other approaches that strengthen connections and support student success.
Important Dates:
- Proposal submission deadline | Jan. 3
- Notification of session status | On or about Jan. 22
- Deadline for presenters to confirm attendance | One week after acceptance
- Notification of final session schedule | Feb. 19
- Approved presenter travel form submission | March 3
AFT TEACH attendees expect:
- Depth of content, not a broad overview or basic introduction;
- Tools, resources and strategies they can implement right away and share with colleagues (free resources prioritized); and
- Engaging, interactive and well-thought-out sessions, not sit-and-get lectures or panels.
Proposals will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Quality and relevance of content to AFT members
- Proposals should be well-developed, engaging and focus on topics most important to AFT members.
- Interactive activities should be incorporated into your session, as well as time for answering participants’ questions.
- Most sessions selected will present intermediate to advanced content.
- Sessions that present research should include a significant portion of time on implementation.
If selected, the AFT will cover up to two presenters per session, as follows:
- AFT MEMBER PRESENTERS (non-local) will receive waived registration fees, travel and hotel accommodations (up to three nights if attending the entire conference).
- AFT MEMBER PRESENTERS in the Washington, D.C., area will receive waived registration fees and $150 to cover local transportation expenses, such as parking or taxis.
- National trainers submitting proposals at AFT’s request will receive a stipend.
- NON-MEMBER PRESENTERS will receive waived registration fees only.
- No additional expenses or reimbursements will be covered.
Notes:
- The AFT will book your travel; presenters should not make their own arrangements.
- Presenters must provide a credit card to reserve their hotel room during the conference registration process. The room charges will be transferred to AFT’s account prior to the stay.
