WASHINGTON—Statement of AFT President Randi Weingarten on the Senate vote to reauthorize the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act:

“We are grateful for the work that a bipartisan group of senators did on career and technical education to produce the Perkins reauthorization bill last night that educators and communities have long been fighting for. It’s also good to see that Secretary Betsy DeVos, the Trump family and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have finally found an aspect of public education they can embrace. But you can’t just say these programs are important; they have to be resourced. To make access to career and technical education real and available to all who want it, Congress needs to make sure the investments are there for the internships, professional development, partnerships, and training students and educators need.”
