WASHINGTON—AFT President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement in response to the arrest of journalists for their reporting in Minnesota:
“This is a red line.
“Don Lemon and Georgia Fort were doing their jobs as journalists, reporting on the facts in Minnesota.
“The right of a free press to report on events accurately, without fear or favor, is fundamental to a free society.
“Their arrests defy the Constitution, the foundation stone of our democracy. All Americans, regardless of their ideology, should be alarmed by this administration’s war on the truth and its abuse of power.”
