2020 Convention Nominations & Elections


Nominations for the offices of President, Secretary-Treasurer, Executive Vice President, forty-three (43) Vice Presidents, and nineteen (19) Delegates to the AFL-CIO 2021 Convention will be accepted via electronic means as detailed below. The term for all offices will run for two (2) years commencing September 1, 2020 and ending with the election of officers at the 2022 AFT Convention. In order to be nominated to serve in any of the offices set forth above, an individual must be an AFT member in good standing. Their nomination form must be supported by a petition signed by fifty (50) delegates to the 2020 AFT Convention. Pursuant to Article 1, § 1(d) of the 2020 AFT Convention Election Rules, nominations must be received no later than the close of business on the second day of the Convention, July 29, 2020. The election will be conducted via US Mail pursuant to Article IV of the 2020 AFT Convention Election Rules. Ballots will be sent to delegates as soon as is practicable after the close of the 2020 AFT Convention proceedings and the ballot count will take place August 31, 2020. The election will be administered by BallotPoint Election Services. All delegates and nominees for office are responsible for thoroughly familiarizing themselves with the 2020 AFT Convention Election Rules, which are enclosed herewith and available online here.
