UPDATE: AFT Election Bus Tour Heads to Florida

'Your Vote-Your Right-Their Futures' Tour Continues to Highlight Importance of
Union Mobilization Efforts for the Election

Washington—The 1.5 million-member American Federation of Teachers will kick off the second leg of its multistate election bus tour this Wednesday in Florida, starting in Tampa, with additional stops in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. The tour will continue next week with stops across the Northeast. The "Your Vote-Your Right-Their Futures" tour will build excitement around re-electing President Obama and other pro-worker candidates, and will highlight the on-the-ground organizing, volunteer mobilization, member-to-member communication and get-out-the-vote efforts AFT members are engaging in every day until the election. The bus tour launched last week in Ohio, with stops in Cincinnati, Toledo and Cleveland.

On the Florida leg of the tour, AFT President Randi Weingarten will be joined by AFT Secretary-Treasurer Lorretta Johnson and local AFT leaders and members. They will meet with community members, union volunteers and union members, and will participate in events in support of President Obama, Sen. Bill Nelson and other candidates. They will be joined in Tampa by Mayor Bob Buckhorn. In Ormond Beach, Weingarten will visit two elementary schools, and in Orlando she will meet with local teachers to discuss Share My Lesson, the online collection of teaching resources created by the American Federation of Teachers and TES Connect.

Next week, the tour will continue with stops across the Northeast, including in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New York.

Weingarten will have additional media availability between stops on the bus tour. Please contact Marcus Mrowka at 202-531-0689 or Carolyn Fiddler at 202-556-1693 to schedule.
