AFT's Francine Lawrence Named Chair of the Learning First Alliance's Board

WASHINGTON—Statement by American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten on the selection of AFT Executive Vice President Francine Lawrence as chair of the Learning First Alliance's board of directors:

"Francine Lawrence is a perfect choice to lead the Learning First Alliance's efforts to improve public education and promote its successes. Fran will be able to call on her unique experience initiating innovative programs to improve teacher quality as the longtime president of the Toledo Federation of Teachers and her pivotal work at the AFT on how to improve teacher preparation. We are so pleased that Fran's position will continue the AFT's leadership among educational stakeholders committed to making sure that every public school is one where parents want to send their children, teachers want to teach, and students will be well-prepared for college, career and life. We extend our sincere congratulations to Fran on her selection as the 2014-15 board chair."
