Through Operation Agua, we are bringing water purification systems to Puerto Rican families and communities since the destruction wrought by Hurricane Maria.

We are so proud to announce that thanks to thousands who contributed to Operation Agua, we have reached our goal of providing 100,000 Kohler Clarity water filters to ensure that our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico have access to safe and reliable drinking water.

We never could have achieved such an ambitious goal without your donation and support. It was individual contributions—big and small—from AFT members, students and so many other Americans that helped us provide thousands of filters to students and educators in schools, and to families and households in remote mountain towns, urban neighborhoods and coastal villages across the island. We also were able to provide thousands of filters to the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

All Operation Agua donations went to the AFT Disaster Relief Fund, which the union established in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, as an ongoing fund to quickly and efficiently respond to catastrophes that affect communities and AFT members in need. Since then, we have helped communities and local AFT members recover from events such as Superstorm Sandy, hurricanes Irma and Maria, and wildfires in California.

Please feel free to make a donation to Operation Agua as contributions to the AFT Disaster Relief Fund can be made at any time.

Many thanks to all the Operation Agua partners:

  • Seafarers International Union and TOTE Maritime, which provided pro bono shipping and handling of all the filters;
  • Operation Blessing International, which managed much of the logistical and distribution efforts in Puerto Rico;
  • Asociación de Maestros de Puerto Rico, which arranged for filter distributions to all public schools on the island; and
  • American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the Hispanic Federation, which provided financial and logistical support

As we enter another Atlantic hurricane season, Operation Agua filters will continue to serve a vital role in providing access to safe and reliable water to hundreds of thousands of people who will be affected.

Thank you for your interest in Operation Agua and in helping our fellow Americans.
