Weingarten Part of Online Forum on the Future of NCLB
From Aug. 5 to Aug. 7, AFT president Randi Weingarten will take part in an online forum on NewTalk, along with other education policy experts, school district administrators and practitioners from across the country, to discuss the future of No Child Left Behind.
John Merrow, the education correspondent for "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer," will moderate the discussion. Other participants include Diane Ravitch from New York University's Steinhardt school of education, Frederick Hess from the American Enterprise Institute and Deborah Wadsworth from Public Agenda.
The discussion will focus on what changes need to be made to NCLB and what to expect from the next president. AFT members are encouraged to follow the discussion and, if interested, post comments in the "Reader Comments" section on the Web site.
The NewTalk site presents focused discussions by experts on important domestic topics shaping American society today. It brings together experts in theory, policy and practice-from academics and lawmakers to admired practitioners-to share their diverse perspectives on pressing domestic issues.
