Scholarships

AFT Robert G. Porter Scholars Program

This program offers four 4-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships to students who are dependents of AFT members, as well as 10 one-time $1,000 grants to AFT members to assist with their continuing education.

 

2018 Porter Scholars application period is now closed.
Applicants will be notified by June 30, 2018.

Union Plus Scholarship Program

Sponsored by the Union Plus Education Foundation. The program is open to members, spouses and dependent children of unions participating in any of the Union Plus programs. See the Union Plus Scholarship Program website for more information.

The 2019 application is now available. Deadline for 2019 applications is 12:00pm (noon, Eastern Time), January 31, 2019.

Congratulations to the AFT family members who were awarded Union Plus scholarships in 2018:

  • Christian Calamuci of Staten Island, New York. Calamuci, whose mother, Laura Calamuci, is a member of AFT Local 2 (UFT), has been awarded a $4,000 scholarship.
  • Carmen Hernandez of Shreveport, Louisiana. Hernandez, whose mother, Barbara Hernandez, is a member of AFT Local 4995 (Red River), has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
  • Maya Hernandez of Chicago. Hernandez, whose father, Andres Hernandez, and mother, Jennifer Hernandez, are members of AFT Local 1 (Chicago), has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
  • Talya Klinger of Novato, California. Klinger, whose mother, Alisa Klinger, is a member of AFT Local 1610 (Marin College), has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
  • Signe Lee of East Hampton, Connecticut. Lee, whose mother, Grace Jiang, is a member of AFT Local 4200 (A&R), has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
  • Isaac McDonald of Puyallup, Washington. McDonald, whose mother, Tracy McDonald, is a member of AFT Local 4821 (Pierce College), has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
  • Taylor Miller of Belleville, Illinois. Miller, whose father, Gary Miller, is a member of AFT Local 6600 (SW Illinois), has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
  • Jeannie Qualls of Valley Center, Kansas. Qualls, whose mother, Tina Qualls, is a member of AFT Local 725 (Wichita), has been awarded a $500 scholarship.
  • Devin Romines of Camarillo, California. Romines, whose mother, Terrie Romines, is a member of AFT Local 1273 (Oxnard), has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
  • Evan Schafer of Clear Lake, Minnesota. Schafer, whose father, Erich Schafer, is a member of AFT Local 7250 (St. CLoud), has been awarded a $3,000 scholarship.
  • Mikaela Smith of Jeffers, Minnesota. Smith, whose mother, Jodi Smith, is a member of AFT Local 7219 (Red Rock Central), has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
  • Ashley Vitiello of Saddle Brook, New Jersey. Vitiello, whose mother, Christine Vitiello, is a member of AFT Local 3977 (Garfield), has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
  • Ally Way of Houston. Way, whose mother, Qing Li, is a member of AFT Local 8041 (Texas AFT), has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
