AFT Higher Education is excited to announce our first ever Contingent Faculty Mobilization Training in Philadelphia on June 10-16, 2018! This training will focus on building our organizing power in preparation for the Supreme Court’s decision in Janus and the campaigns we’ll likely need to wage as a result.
Participants will gain a range of skills and experience. They will learn about—and practice—holding organizing conversations that effectively recruit and mobilize new members, identifying and planning campaigns around union issues, mapping and charting your workplace, solidifying work-site structures, and preparing for upcoming political battles. Participants should be prepared to commit to long and irregular hours during the training, and they should be prepared to work as part of a larger team.
This mobilization training will launch a yearlong effort to develop internal organizing capacity in our adjunct/contingent faculty locals nationwide—in part, by holding virtual meetings every other month. We ask for all participants to commit to this yearlong process. Locals leadership must apply, and members should reach out to their leadership if they’re interested in attending. Space is limited to 30 participants, and AFT will cover the cost of travel, housing, and breakfast for participants.
To participate, please fill out the application and submit it to email@example.com by May 1. We will conduct interviews by phone and notify participants by May 10. If you have any questions, contact the AFT higher education department at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202-879-4426. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing a team from your local at the Contingent Faculty Mobilization Training on June 10-16.
