National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential, awarded through an intensive, peer-reviewed process. Teachers seeking certification must analyze their teaching contexts and students’ needs, submit videos of their teaching, and provide student work samples that exhibit growth and acheivement. They must demonstrate a strong command of content, the ability to design appropriate experiences that advance student learning, the use of assessments to inform instructional decision making, and partnerships with colleagues, parents and the community. Many school districts offer salary increases for National Board Certified teachers. Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree, have completed three years of teaching and must have a valid state teaching or school counseling license.
