AFT's ER&D program is a union-sponsored, research-based professional development program. It is developed to help local unions build the capacity to deliver high-quality professional development services, either on their own or in collaboration with their school districts. ER&D courses meet the standards for high-quality professional development established in the NCLB Act of 2001.

Making Data Work for You is an AFT course that helps educators become savvy consumers of data. Developed jointly by the AFT, New York State United Teachers, Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals, Toledo Federation of Teachers, and United Federation of Teachers, the course is designed to provide participants with the language, knowledge and tools to make informed changes—individually and collaboratively in teams—on a number of fronts. For more information, email the Center for School Improvement at aftcsi@aft.org.

The QuEST Conference is a biennial event devoted to teaching and learning. QuEST is an exciting forum for learning, debate and discussion among AFT members, leaders and the entire education community.

AFT sponsors many other valuable meetings and conferences. Visit www.aft.org/about/calendar.htm for a current calendar of opportunities.

The AFT's Teacher Quality Web site provides other valuable information on high-quality professional development educators need to improve schools for students.
