The Kenya model school competition is designed to honor schools that have achieved a high level of excellence in implementing the ministry’s school-workplace policy and to demonstrate what other Kenyan schools can do to reduce transmission and mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS.
More than 100 of the program’s 636 target schools entered the competition by submitting a portfolio describing and providing evidence of their achievements. Portfolios were evaluated by a panel of judges at the district and national levels and a team of representatives from the KNUT, AFT and TSC conducted site visits to evaluate the top 10 schools.
The first-, second- and third-place winners of the competition as well as seven other superior schools that received honorable mention for their outstanding achievements in implementing strong and innovative AIDS policies are showcased in the slideshow below.
