Pennsylvania House of Representatives Select Committee on Academic Freedom

On July 5, 2005, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed Resolution 177, which establishes "a select committee to examine the academic atmosphere and the degree to which faculty have the opportunity to instruct and students have the opportunity to learn in an environment conducive to the pursuit of knowledge and truth at State-related and State-owned colleges and universities and community colleges in this Commonwealth." The select committee is in the process of holding these hearings. On Jan. 10, 2006, AFT testified before the committee. Below are links to that testimony.

On May 31 and June 1, the select committee held its final hearing.  Karen Schermerhorn, co-president of the Faculty & Staff Federation of the Community College of Philadelphia, submitted the following written testimony.
