We are pleased to present this year's QuEST (Quality Educational Standards in Teaching) conference, a biennial event devoted to professional issues. QuEST is an exciting forum for learning, debate and discussion among AFT members, leaders and the entire education community. At this conference, participants will:
- Grapple with the challenges and opportunities in implementing current federal mandates;
- Learn about the latest research on school improvement;
- Discuss issues classroom educators face daily;
- Hear lively presentations at plenary sessions; and
- Share ideas and practices with committed colleagues from across the country.
For the classroom educator, QuEST offers more than a hundred workshops designed for a variety of interests. These range from the best research on how to improve reading and math achievement to using proven strategies for teaching a range of students. Participants also can visit our Education Expo to review and purchase publications and books, visit online resources, get special discounts, and send faxes to members of Congress on pressing legislative issues.
For AFT leaders and education policymakers, QuEST is a place to get practical guidance on meeting today's educational challenges, such as:
- Working with administrators to raise achievement and foster labor-management cooperation around teacher quality;
- Responding to the assessment and accountability challenges presented by the No Child Left Behind Act and IDEA;
- Raising educational standards for all students through professional development and technology; and
- Learning about ways to raise achievement for all students.
At this conference, the union will present in-depth information and good models on all of these topics--and more.
