Before meeting in New Orleans to discuss union business in January, members of the PSRP program and policy council visited neighborhoods still in shambles from Hurricane Katrina.

The visitors didn't just gawk, of course. They volunteered to tutor at Laurel Elementary in New Orleans and help assemble libraries at Terrytown Elementary in Jefferson Parish and at Dilbert Elementary in New Orleans.

Council members later remarked on the gratitude of school staff and students who were trying to function with as little as one box of crayons per classroom.
