With a few strokes of your keyboard and a click of a button, FPE/AFT members can receive the latest information on the federal 2003 budget process. The Web site, hosted by Senate Budget Committee chair Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), can be accessed at www.senate.gov/~budget/democratic.

President Bush's budget, submitted to Congress Feb. 4, would cut domestic programs, including transportation programs, by 6.2 percent, "relative to what is needed to maintain the same purchasing power provided to agencies and programs in 2002," according to a review of the budget proposal, which is posted on the site.

"The Web site is a valuable information tool," says FPE/AFT department director Steve Porter, "because it addresses the budget proposal as well as tax policy. It also provides a detailed analysis of budget nuances and their potential impact on Medicare and Social Security."
