Applications for the 2005 Robert G. Porter Scholars Program will be available in November. Applications can be accessed online at www.aft.org/aftplus/scholarships/index.htm. To obtain an application by mail, please send a request to the American Federation of Teachers, Robert G. Porter Scholars Program, 555 New Jersey Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001.

The competition is open to all AFT members and the children of AFT members who will be graduating from high school in 2005. Under the program, which was established in 1992 to honor Porter who served as AFT secretary-treasurer from 1963 until his death in 1991, four $8,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors, and $1,000 grants are given to union members who are continuing their education.

Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2005, to receive consideration.
