Television reports don’t do justice to the debate raging on Capitol Hill over President Bush’s plans for Social Security. Newspaper coverage falls short, too. After  all, both formats have time and space limitations and commonly fall prey to reporting what is said versus reporting the facts.

Due to the serious societal implications that President Bush’s plan poses to the nation—and particularly future Social Security recipients, including retirees, adults with disabilities, their dependents and children whose parents have died—a number of government watchdog organizations and research groups are covering the issue in depth on their Web sites.
