FOUNDED IN 1969 as the George Meany Center for Labor Studies.
LOCATED 10 MILES from the nation's capital, in Silver Spring, Md.
PARTNERED with Antioch University 1974-97 to offer bachelor's degrees.
RENAMED the National Labor College in 1997.
AWARDS BACHELOR'S degrees on its own and through partnerships with the University of Baltimore, American University and George Mason University, as well as two-year colleges around the country.
ACCREDITED BY the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 2004.
HAS AWARDED 1,000 degrees since 1974.
OFFERS MAJORS in Labor Studies, Political Economy of Labor, Labor Education, Labor Safety and Health, Union Leadership and Administration, and Labor History.
PROVIDES TUITION BREAKS for workers (partially subsidized by the AFL-CIO): $158 per credit for AFL-CIO-affiliated union members and staff; $210 per credit for non-affiliated union members and members of Working America, an AFL-CIO community activist organization.
CONDUCTS CLASSES online in 16-week sessions, with one week on-site.
SERVES ADULT LEARNERS-The average age of NLC students is 40-45 years old.
FACULTY: 10 full-time and 30 adjunct/part-time. Part-time faculty voted for AFT representation in November 2007.
