Anne Goldman, special representative for the Federation of Nurses/United Federation of Teachers and a member of the AFT Healthcare program and policy council, has been named the Health Care Professionals Member of the Year by the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT).
Goldman received the award during the NYSUT 2005 representative assembly held in April. NYSUT honored Goldman’s leadership as an advocate for healthcare professionals, both at the UFT and on behalf of healthcare professional members statewide.
She has served as chair of the NYSUT Health Care Professionals Council since it was created. In addition, NYSUT honored Goldman for her work with "healthcare members from all fields and work settings—from hospitals to visiting nurse services, from school buildings to research laboratories" and for "identifying professional and legislative initiatives, enhancing the healthcare lobby day, and working with council members and NYSUT staff to create professional development opportunities of interest to NYSUT healthcare members."
Goldman is also a member of the NYSUT board of directors. Appointed in 2002, she is the first healthcare professional to serve on the board of the state federation.
