Council has seven new members; top officers re-elected

During the biennial convention, AFT president Edward J. McElroy, secretary-treasurer Nat LaCour and executive vice president Antonia Cortese were re-elected to the union’s top offices. Delegates also elected seven new vice presidents to serve on the 39-member executive council. They are:

Shelvy Y. Abrams, first vice chairperson of the United Federation of Teachers (New York City) paraprofessional chapter;

Michelle Bodden, vice president of elementary schools at the United Federation of Teachers (New York City);

Linda Bridges, president of the Texas Federation of Teachers;

Kenneth Brynien, president of the New York State Public Employees Federation;

Eric Feaver, president of Montana’s MEA-MFT;

Judy Hale, president of AFT-West Virginia and president of the Putnam Federation of Teachers; and

Stacey Caruso-Sharpe, an activist in the Amsterdam (N.Y.) Teachers Association and a member of the New York State United Teachers board of directors.
