February 2008 saw the first issue of the new, improved American Teacher. Over the past few months, we've surveyed members about American Teacher and they told us they wanted a smaller, more reader-friendly publication, and an increased focus on their interests and concerns as education professionals—and we listened. We've changed the size of American Teacher and given it a fresh layout and design. We've also added more professional advice and classroom resources, such as the "Tools for Teachers" column that was launched last September.
Because we want to hear from you, American Teacher now has more interactive features, including "AFT Voices," which you can use to share your views and ideas with the AFT, and our new "Speak Out" response column. This makes it possible for you to weigh in on the questions posed in "Speak Out," one of our most popular sections.
This issue also marks the debut of "State Lines," a new section that will spotlight organizing drives, contract settlements and other important union news from across the country.
We have continued (and sometimes expanded) popular features like "Where to Find It," "Your Money" and "Try It!"—which has been renamed "Teachers' Lounge."
We hope you enjoy the "new" American Teacher.
