TEST TREAT
Here's a quick and easy way for students to look forward to tests, says fourth-grade
teacher Lynn Davis of Cleveland, Ohio. She puts a sticker on one random test paper (a flag
for social studies, a frog for science, for example). The child who receives the test
paper with the sticker gets to choose a treat to enjoy before, during or after the test.
ALL HOOKED UP
Business teacher Tresa Wilson of Madrid, N.Y., notes that keeping books and equipment tidy
in a computer lab can become a big problem. One small thing that helps: She attaches an
inexpensive, sticky-backed plastic cup hook on the side of each computer monitor to hold
head sets. "We have not had any damage or yanked cords since making this 20-cent
investment for each machine," she says.
STAY SHARP
First-grade teacher Carolyn Kuennen of Bloomington, Minn., keeps a "sharp" and
"not sharp" pencil cup next to the pencil sharpener. This eliminates pencil
sharpening interruptions throughout the day. "We keep an ample supply of sharp
pencils so that sharpening is a morning job for one student," she says.
