Holocaust study tour

Secondary school teachers of social studies and literature who are able to implement Holocaust studies in their classrooms are invited to apply for a summer fellowship in Israel, with a stop in Poland. The tour will take place from July 4-July 26, 2000. This three-week seminar on Holocaust and Jewish Resistance gives participating teachers an intensive living and learning experience.

In Poland, the program includes visits to Jewish historic sites and some infamous concentration camps. In Israel, teachers will study at Yad Vashem Documentation and Research Center in Jerusalem, the Study Center at Ghetto Fighters House, and Kibbutz Lohamei Haghetaot near Haifa. The program also includes excursions to historic sites.

The teacher fellowship program is sponsored by the AFT, the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and the Educators' Chapter of the Jewish Labor Committee. Participants pay $2,000--less than half the total cost. It includes travel from New York, hotels (two in a room), two meals a day and some trips.

For further information and an application, write to: Holocaust Study Summer Seminar, Jewish Labor Committee, 25 East 21st Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10010, tel. 212/477-0707. Application deadline is April 15.
