One provision of the NCLB law is that a paraprofessional may not provide any instructional service to a student unless the paraprofessional is working under the direct supervision of a teacher. What this effectively means is that paraprofessionals SHOULD NOT be working as substitute teachers in their regular assignment or in another classroom.

As part of our continuing efforts to monitor the law and its provisions, we'd like to learn more about how this provision has been implemented in your district and your worksite.
