"Air Conditioning"

Ed McElroy: Far too many children attend schools that are unfit for learning.

I’m Ed McElroy, Secretary Treasurer of the American Federation of Teachers—the AFT.

Poor ventilation, malfunctioning heating and cooling systems, and mold are just some of the environmental problems in schools that are making our kids sick.

Gwen Ridgley:  And, I’m Gwen Ridgley, a teacher in New Orleans.  At my school, mold has caused students and teachers to suffer headaches and severe respiratory problems.  No wonder the U.S. General Accounting Office reports that 8 million kids are breathing unhealthy air in school.

Solutions can be straightforward – like better maintenance of heating and ventilation systems.  But whatever it takes, we’ve got to insist that all of our schools are healthy places to learn.

Voice-over: A message from the American Federation of Teachers.
