Statement by Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers,
On U.S. House Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act

WASHINGTON—We applaud the U.S. House of Representatives’ approval of this legislation, which correctly redirects savings to make it easier for the neediest students and their families to afford college, and provides direct investment in community college programs and infrastructure. We’re also pleased about the bill’s competitive grant program for states to build high-quality early childhood education programs and its support for school renovation and construction, especially for energy-efficient buildings.

We look forward to working with the U.S. Senate as it considers this legislation.
