Statement by Randi Weingarten,
President, American Federation of Teachers,
On White House Fiscal Responsibility Summit

AFT President Randi Weingarten attended the White House Fiscal Responsibility Summit, along with about 100 other business and labor leaders as well as members of Congress.

WASHINGTON—I want to compliment President Obama for bringing together a bipartisan group of congressional leaders, the Cabinet, business and labor leaders, and others who represent people who have been particularly affected by the nation's economic plight. It was a very thoughtful and deliberative afternoon that gave people with a wide range of expertise a valuable opportunity to tackle complicated issues that are desperately in need of strong solutions. The goal now should be to determine how best to secure Americans' future while keeping deficits under control.
