Statement by Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers,
on Florida Supreme Court Striking Down School Voucher Amendments
On Sept. 3, Florida’s highest court rejected proposed voucher amendments to the state constitution.
WASHINGTON—“The Florida Supreme Court sent a clear message when it voted 7-0 to knock off the ballot another attempt to use public funds for private education. The court once more has stopped an effort to use vouchers to undermine public schooling. It is long past time to put this failed fad behind us and concentrate on ideas that truly help all students and teachers.”
