Statement by Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers,
On Barack Obama’s Selection of Joe Biden as His Running Mate

Washington, D.C. – Sen. Barack Obama has made a smart decision in choosing Sen. Joseph Biden as his running mate.

Biden's career in the Senate reflects a long record of strong support for working families and public education. We are confident that he will be a terrific partner as Obama seeks to strengthen America's role abroad and our nation’s public schools, economy and healthcare system.

The AFT will continue to work every day to inform our more than 1.4 million members of the stark differences between the candidates in this election. We look forward to working with President Obama and Vice President Biden to rise to America's challenges and make the most of its opportunities.
