What’s Happening on Monday at the AFT Convention

CHICAGO – An address by the newly elected president of the American Federation of Teachers will be a highlight of the last day—Monday, July 14—of the AFT convention at Chicago’s Navy Pier.

The more than 3,000 convention delegates will vote for the three top AFT officials on Sunday afternoon; the election results will be announced Monday morning.

 Due to no opposition, the presumptive new top leaders are:
 Randi Weingarten – President
 Antonia Cortese – Secretary-Treasurer
 Lorretta Johnson – Executive Vice President

8 a.m.  Women’s Rights Awards Breakfast
Speaker: Lily Ledbetter, whose sex discrimination/wage lawsuit against Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Location: Navy Pier, Grand Ballroom

9:30 a.m. AFT convention session opens
 Announcement of election results
 Address by Weingarten
 Location: Navy Pier, Festival Hall B

 At end of this morning session, approximately 1 p.m.
 Press briefing with the new AFT officers
 Location: Navy Pier, Festival Hall A, Room 329
