What’s Happening on Sunday at the AFT Convention
CHICAGO—Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will address, live by satellite, the more than 3,000 delegates to the American Federation of Teachers convention on Sunday, July 13, at Chicago’s Navy Pier. Obama’s appearance follows a vote by the delegates on a recommendation to endorse his candidacy.
When: Session starts Sunday, 10 a.m.
Obama’s satellite address is scheduled to begin at 10:50 a.m. Chicago time.

Starting at 4:30 p.m., delegates will begin voting for new AFT leadership. The announced candidates to date are Randi Weingarten for president, Antonia Cortese for secretary-treasurer, and Lorretta Johnson for executive vice president. Election results will be announced Monday at the 9:30 a.m. session, followed by speeches by the new officers.
