Statement by Edward J. McElroy,
President, American Federation of Teachers
On Jan. 8th, Thomas Edsall of The Huffington Post—a political Web site—posted an item claiming the American Federation of Teachers was considering a plan to form an independent "527" organization, purportedly to criticize Sen. Barack Obama. AFT President Edward J. McElroy issued the following statement in response:
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Tom Edsall is wrong. His posting on the "Huffington Post" blog saying that the American Federation of Teachers is "exploring" the possibility of creating an anti-Sen. Barack Obama organization is a fabrication. Mr. Edsall does a disservice to the AFT and its members by suggesting that we would have any part of such an effort.
