2005 QuEST Conference to Feature Launch of Free Online Resource for Educators of Latino ELL Students

LOCATION – At the upcoming QuEST conference, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Reading Rockets, a multimedia project of public broadcasting station WETA in Washington, D.C., will announce a new partnership to help educators meet the growing challenges of teaching Latino English language learners (ELLs). The announcement will include the launch of a free "For Educators" section of the bilingual Web site, www.colorincolorado.org.

Colorín Colorado is the first major, comprehensive bilingual Web site created for parents and educators to help children learn to read.  AFT helped develop the educator section of the Web site.  The new section will provide educators with a wealth of easy-to-use resources to help ELL students.  The effort marks an important point in AFT’s history, as the union expands its services to classroom practitioners who serve this rapidly growing sector of the U.S. population.

Reporters must obtain press credentials.  Starting July 6, the AFT press office will be in the State Room, Terrace Level
