Washington Teachers Union to Protest Proposed Budget Cuts

Hundreds of Washington, D.C., teachers, along with other members of the community, will protest Mayor Williams’ proposed $100 million budget cut for the District’s public schools at a rally on Thursday.

"We can’t strengthen our public schools by weakening them," said George Springer, administrator of the Washington Teachers Union. "Smashing the public schools’ budget with a sledgehammer won’t get youngsters needed early childhood programs, won’t get teachers more professional development, and won’t get dilapidated schools needed repairs," he said.

WHAT:            Rally to protest budget cuts

SPEAKERS: Teacher, parent, and student representatives

WHEN:            Thursday, April 10, 4:30--6:30 PM (Speakers to begin at 5 PM)

WHERE:         In front of City Hall / The Wilson Building
