"With 9 percent of Indianans out of work, and countless more struggling to put food on the table and keep up with mortgage payments, the last thing Indiana families need is a law that will increase economic pain and uncertainty."

WASHINGTON—With 9 percent of Indianans out of work, and countless more struggling to put food on the table and keep up with mortgage payments, the last thing Indiana families need is a law that will increase economic pain and uncertainty. By jamming this law through against the will of the people, Gov. Mitch Daniels chose to ignore the needs of Indiana families and side with deep-pocketed corporate donors waging a coordinated attack on working people.

Not only are these attacks mean-spirited, they are irresponsible. These tough times call for leaders willing to sit down and work collaboratively to create jobs and provide economic relief to our families and communities.

This debate crystallized who is on the side of working people. In the state Legislature, every Democratic senator and nine courageous Republican senators who voted "no" today, plus the House Democrats who earlier walked out in an attempt to stop this harmful bill, demonstrated their willingness to stand up against this corporate-backed attack.
