WASHINGTON—American Federation of Teachers Vice President Ann Twomey will join other leaders of labor, business and consumer groups, as well as members of Congress, at the White House summit on healthcare reform Thursday.
The AFT is prepared to work with the White House, Congress and other stakeholders on the much-needed reform of our healthcare system. "It is important that those efforts include the voices of healthcare workers, such as the women and men we are proud to represent, on quality-of-care issues," said AFT President Randi Weingarten. "Ann Twomey is the perfect representative to champion these issues—for those who need healthcare and for those who work in healthcare."
Twomey is an AFT vice president and president of Health Professionals and Allied Employees—New Jersey's largest union of registered nurses and healthcare professionals. She will be available to speak with reporters when the summit ends Thursday afternoon. Contact Leslie Getzinger at 202/879-4373 for interview requests or for more information.
