WASHINGTON— Statement of AFT President Randi Weingarten following a letter from the U.S. Department of Education offering states added time and flexibility around teacher evaluations.

"Earlier this year, the Department of Education said they were going to exempt the educator evaluation piece from the current round of consideration for ESEA waiver renewals, and this announcement makes it seem like they are following through with that—which is an important step forward."
