WASHINGTON— Today, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten praised the "My Brother's Keeper Task Force Report to the President." My Brother's Keeper is a White House initiative aimed at promoting the success of young men of color.
"The promise of public education can only be truly achieved when we improve life prospects for all young people, and especially for those with the greatest need, young men of color. The task force's report, released today, outlines ways we can work together as a nation to improve outcomes for communities and families.
"The AFT strongly supports the task force's push for more early childhood education opportunities, a greater commitment to providing wraparound services and an increased focus on early literacy. As President Obama has said, "We are stronger when America fields a full team," and we are happy to be part of a team that is committed to reclaiming the promise of public education for young men of color."
The American Federation of Teachers will be hosting a My Brother's Keeper Town Hall in Los Angeles on June 12. Please click here for more details.
