Join Us in Helping Teachers Combat AIDS in Africa.
Contributions to the AFT-Africa AIDS Campaign are helping teacher unions develop the programs they need to provide their members with effective tools to protect themselves and their communities. Unions in Africa must submit a written proposal and budget for the funds they request from the AFT-Africa AIDS Campaign, and the projects must be directly related to an effort to provide effective HIV/AIDS prevention, counseling and care programs for their members. All grant requests must be approved by the AFT secretary-treasurer and the director of AFT International Affairs Department.

The AIDS epidemic is taking a terrible toll on our brothers and sisters in Africa. In Kenya, 10 teachers a week lose their lives to AIDS. In South Africa, as many as 60,000 teachers will die before the end of this decade. Teachers in Africa are taking the lead in challenging the stigma associated with AIDS and in developing effective prevention, counseling and care programs. Through our financial support, the AFT-Africa AIDS Campaign is helping them meet those needs. Tax-deductible contributions should be made out to the AFT Educational Foundation and mailed to the AFTEF, 555 New Jersey Ave. N.W., Washington, DC 20001. (Write "AFT-Africa AIDS" in the memo portion of the check.) Your contribution will make you a part of our ongoing efforts to provide help in the fight against AIDS.
