On Supporting the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education
Today faculty members across the country launched a new initiative—the Campaign for the Future of Higher Education—to promote broad access to high-quality higher education.
WASHINGTON—The Campaign for the Future of Higher Education’s agenda is consistent with the AFT’s recent policy statement, “Student Success in Higher Education,” which outlines steps that can be taken to strengthen course design, instruction and assessment to promote student success. We are pleased to join forces with other organizations to call for more resources and support for high-quality undergraduate instruction, and to make sure that policies that have been too heavily focused on standardizing curriculum and assessment take into account the faculty’s classroom perspective.
We believe these efforts should be led by frontline faculty and staff, and based on the rich diversity of educational missions, course offerings and students in colleges and universities. It will take everyone—including faculties and their unions; school administrators; and student, civic and community organizations—working together to reach our goals, and the campaign will help move us in the right direction.
