Statement of AFT President Sandra Feldman
on Project Star Class Size Study

WASHINGTON, D.C. — "Today’s findings by Project STAR researchers highlight a reform that will work for all of our children, smaller classes in the early years of school. Ironically, this research comes while policymakers in Florida, New York City and around the country are dealing with the sideshow of vouchers. Let’s focus our limited resources on efforts to reduce class sizes, rather than divert funds from our public schools for expensive experiments like vouchers.

"Ninety percent of America’s children attend public schools and we owe them the best possible education. Members of Congress, mayors, school boards and other policy makers should take aggressive steps to lower class sizes in the early years for all of our children."
