Hurricane Katrina moratorium on AFT PLUS/GMAC auto insurance cancellations
GMAC suspends non-payment cancellations for Gulf Coast policy holders
Given the situation on the ground along the Gulf Coast, GMAC, the AFT PLUS auto insurance provider, has decided to suspend until Dec. 1 any action to cancel policies of Hurricane Katrina victims in the hardest hit Gulf Coast counties and parishes resulting from nonpayment of premiums.
The suspension of cancellations for non-payment of premium will apply to the counties/parishes listed below in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama only.LOUISIANA PARISHES:
Acadia, Ascension, Assumption, Calcasieu, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Pointe Coupee, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, St. Martin, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.
MISSISSIPPI COUNTIES:
Amite, Forrest, George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Lamar, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Stone, Walthall, and Wilkinson Counties.
ALABAMA COUNTIES:
Baldwin, Mobile, and Washington Counties.
EFFECTIVE PERIOD:
The suspension of cancellation due to nonpayment in these affected areas will begin immediately and will continue through at least Dec. 1, 2005, depending on circumstances at that time.
This is another effort—along with GMAC's contributions to the American Red Cross and meeting some of the personal needs of GMAC's customers, employees and their families impacted by Hurricane Katrina—to respond to the tragedy in a proactive way.
