AFT’s higher education policy journal--American Academic--is announcing its second annual call for proposals. The 2005 theme is "Success in Higher Education"--how to define it, how to bring it about, how to know we’ve achieved it and who makes this decision. These questions are crucial in light of the recent movement to impose outside, often quantitative, "output" requirements on higher education under the banner of accountability. The 2005 issue of American Academic will inform public opinion on the twin issues of accountability and success by exploring an array of ideas and viewpoints from academics, researchers and policymakers.

Proposals must be received electronically by May 1, 2004, and should include a cover page with the title of the proposed paper, author and affiliation, and telephone/ e-mail contact information.  Proposals should be submitted to AFT Higher Education via e-mail at americanacademic@aft.org. For more information, contact the AFT Higher Education staff at 202/879-4426. [Lindsay Albert]
